New Year's resolutions are a great way to set goals and accomplishments for the coming year but sometimes its hard to stick to them and we end up forgetting about them or not following through. I am definitely guilty of this so I have come up with a few tips for sticking with your resolutions.
1. Be very specific with your goal or resolution
Instead of saying "I want to learn Spanish," which is a very broad open-ended goal, trying saying "I will sign up for a beginner's Spanish learning class." This helps tremendously when sticking with your resolution because it becomes easier to accomplish.
2. Write down your resolutions on paper
If you write them down on paper, they are more likely to be accomplished. And you can take it one step further and place your list of resolutions in a place you will see them every day. This reinforces them in your mind and pushes you to focus on them and keep them top of mind.
3. Create a plan for each resolution
If one of your resolutions is to cook 5 healthy meals per week, then you need to create a plan so you can achieve it. Your plan might include researching new recipes you want to try, creating a shopping list for these recipes, and planning out your week so you know what you are cooking each day and how much time each recipe will take. If you create a plan, the goal or resolution becomes much easier to accomplish.
4. Tell other people about your resolutions
Tell others about your resolutions so they can help to keep you on track. This can be very effective in accomplishing your resolution because you will have constant reminders and you will be held accountable for what you want to achieve. Sometimes resolutions or goals can be more fun when we participate with others and build each other up.
5. Track your progress
It is so important to track your progress because it helps to keep you moving forward even if a goal or resolution will take weeks, months, or the whole year to accomplish. Every little step forward helps to keep you motivated and energized.
6. Reward yourself
Always remember to reward yourself for each little accomplishment because it will keep you excited and you will feel great about overcoming challenges. Your reward can be anything from a relaxing bath, a piece of chocolate, or watching an episode of your favorite show. It doesn't have to be a big reward because the goal is to find little pieces of excitement in your life so you feel happy and energized every day.
I wish you all the best this coming year and I hope you accomplish everything you set your mind to. If you want to kick start 2019 with a daily challenge check out our 21 Day Happiness Challenge and see for yourself. Happy 2019!
